On April 3, 2018 the Town of Bedford Board of Trustees unanimously adopted an amendment to the Town’s Zoning Code that would allow half-baths and washer/dryers in barns. An owner must nevertheless obtain a building permit, and sleeping facilities and kitchens are expressly prohibited.
The purpose of the amendment is to enable property owners to engage daytime horse grooms. The overall goal of the Town is to retain its “horse friendly” status and prevent horse owners from trotting off to surrounding communities with less restrictive laws.
