The Town of North Castle in Westchester County, New York has amended its zoning code to add a new definition of “fence.”  See Local Law 6-2014.

The new definition is very broad, including a “visible or tangible barrier enclosing, bordering or delineating a yard.”  However, the definition expressly excludes hedges, shrubs, trees or natural growth.  The law also states that a fence shall not be constructed of “tarpaulins or sheets.”  A copy of the new law can be found online at the following address:
